Product Description

The new DXT 2 vertical mouse is a compact ergonomic mouse which has been expertly designed by a team of leading UK physiotherapists and ergonomists. The DXT 2 promotes a neutral (more vertical) wrist posture while allowing the hand to work with a light touch fingertip hold providing precision cursor control. The ambidextrous shape of the DXT2 allows for either right or left handed use. Choose the standard USB model or the new RF Wireless model with extended battery life and rapid charge system. Conventional flat mice put unnecessary strain on your hands, arms, and fingers Forearm Pronation A conventional flat mouse forces the user to twist their hand palm-down and parallel to the work surface resulting in forearm pronation. Forearm pronation requires a “static load” which has been shown to cause muscle strains. Pronation can cause pain in the forearm and elbow which can lead to serious injuries. Static Grip Force A conventional flat mouse requires a “static grip force” which engages the power-producing “extrinsic” flexor and extensor muscles of the forearm (aka “pinch grip” or “death grip”). This static grip occurs when the user is moving the mouse, and also when the mouse is at rest. This unnecessary force results in a static load which can cause pain to radiate up the hand, wrist, and arm and can lead to repetitive strain injuries. Wrist Extension Many conventional flat mice cause the wrist to make contact with the work surface causing it to bend upward. Wrist extension creates static muscle tension, reduces blood flow, and puts pressure on the median nerve which can lead to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Shoulder/Neck Isolation Most conventional flat mice fill the whole hand. “Whole-hand” mice force movement and cursor control up to the shoulder which is designed for large power movements, not the precison control that mousing requires. Forcing and isolating movement to the shoulder can lead to both neck and shoulder tension. The DXT2 ergonomic mouse was specifically engineered to solve these problems with its unique vertical shape and fingertip grip Forearm Pronation The DXT’s semi-vertical design allows the mouse to be held from a more natural and “functionally neutral” position with the hand gently resting on its side at an angle of 50˚ to 70˚. Studies show that most comfortable position for mouse operation is when the thumb is higher than the little finger (anywhere between 10˚ and 90˚of rotation). Static Grip Force The DXT mouse does not encourage static gripping or “pinch grip” by utilizing the low power producing instrinsic muscles of the hand and creating accuracy through fluid, dynamic movement. Furthermore, excessive gripping is not even allowed due to the DXT’s ultra light button click force of 50 grams which allow users to hold and operate with a feather-light touch from a fully relaxed hand and finger position. Wrist Extension The DXT’s semi-vertical design eliminates all wrist surface contact which allows a more natural and intuitive wrist posture for relaxed and precise control. Shoulder/Neck Isolation The smaller DXT mouse spreads the load of moving the mouse throughout the entire arm and hand, reducing stress on the shoulder and neck allowing the hand, elbow and shoulder to work in synergy. No part of the limb is completely isolated. Choose the DXT2 Wireless for CONVENIENCE and PORTABILITY Connect the compact RF dongle to an available USB port on your computer for quick and easy pairing. The integrated, rechargeable lithium-ion is engineered to last for 2 weeks on a full charge, and the rapid charge system allows 2+ hours of use with a mere 30 seconds of charging. Choose the DXT 2 Wired for VALUE AND RELIABILITY Convenient USB wired connection for maximum reliability6ft USB cable The Leaders in Computer Ergonomics Kinesis Corporation was founded in 1991 with the objective of developing the first computer keyboard optimized for comfort and productivity. There are a number of blobby ergonomic mice that reduce pronation of the wrist. This unique, ambidextrous mouse has a smaller footprint, is comfortable for a wider range of hand sizes, and has a unique benefit in terms of accuracy and ease of adaptation. The biggest difference with the Kinesis DXT-2, is the way you naturally grip it. You hold it gently and naturally between your fingers, and the parallel faces ensure that there's no tendency for it to squirt out from between your fingers. It's hard to explain, but another difference from the vertical "blob mice" I've tried, is that while you move the mouse with your whole hand, there's a sense that pointing is more natural. It some ways, it feels like a perfect middle ground between a mouse and a stylus. This mouse seems to disappear in my hand. Because it doesn't fill out the palm of my hand, it doesn't feel clammy or sweaty on hot days. The only slightly odd design choice, is that the scroll wheel is mounted a little lower than expected. Even this aspect shows attention to ergonomics- it can be operated with either the index or middle finger, and actually encourages you to relax your hand slightly when scrolling, giving your hand a break from the normal position.More on ambidextrous use: there's a prominent button at the base of the thumb side of the mouse. It's tucked away to prevent accidental activation, but a single click converts it from left to right-hand use. I didn't expect to get much use out of this, but I find that it helps to reduce stress on both hands and wrists. As a dedicated leftie, I find it difficult to use a normal mouse with my wrong hand. However, the Kinesis feels surprisingly natural on either side of the keyboard. This is the second-generation version, and the benefits include a uniquely soft, smooth feel. It doesn't feel sticky like some rubberized mice, and glides between your thumb and fingers without feeling like it's going to slip out of your grip. The DXT-2 is also a little larger than the original. In my opinion, only someone with extremely small hands would prefer the previous model.A small button underneath offers 4 different speeds, which is useful for adapting to different display sizes. However, I found the default (1500dpi, I think) perfect for both my 16" M1 MacBook Pro and my 32" 1440P desktop display.Although it's relatively compact and very light, the weighted base gives it a nice balance, and ensures that it doesn't tip over if you bump it while reaching for other items on your desk.YMMV, but for me, this is the perfect middle ground between a mouse and a stylus. My hand and wrist problems are completely gone.Only one thing remains to be seen at this point: My first-gen wireless model abruptly died after a little over a year. I chose the wired version this time, hoping that it will be more durable. That said, after trying other, inferior ergo mice, and considering the lower price, and I would probably buy this one again even if it turned out to be a little less durable!
